Master the Account Hierarchy

What is a Salesforce Account Hierarchy?

An account hierarchy shows an account and subsidiaries related through the ‘Parent Account’ field.  This will provide a global view of a company and accurately align the subsidiaries.

Proper account hierarchies can be foundational to your Salesforce data. A full and accurate account structure can help ensure other related objects & data align properly.  It can help to guide individual & team engagement.

Account hierarchies drive best practices as additional functionality is introduced to your core Salesforce instance (Revenue, Service, & Platform clouds). New Salesforce users can start off on the right foot and seasoned Salesforce companies can ensure their data is sanitized and up-to-date.

  1. Identify or create the ‘Parent’ account.  This is the account at the top of the hierarchy.

  2. After you identify the ‘Parent’ account, relate your child account to the targeted parent account. Simply go to the details section of the child account and assign the target parent account via the ‘Parent Account’ field.

  3. You can check your hierarchy by navigating to the View Account Hierarchy selection.

  4. Ensure the process and mapping becomes a seamless experience for the users.

Looking at the standard Salesforce interface, there is much to be desired. For more options and details please check out Interactive Org Chart Tool for Salesforce [In-Depth Review].
